How and where to share your podcast

Why should I share my podcast on the web?

Podcasts don’t just exist in podcatchers like Apple Podcasts and Google Play Music. To get listeners, it’s important to share your podcast and episodes across the web. Creating a website for your show, and sharing new content on social media, with links to that website, will help you with both word-of-mouth marketing among people who like your show, and it will also improve your podcast’s SEO (search engine optimization). Improving both of these means more eyes on your shows feed, and potentially more listeners and subscribers.

Does podcast SEO help with rankings on Apple Podcasts or other podcatchers?

The short answer: No, podcast website SEO does not directly improve your show’s rankings on Apple Podcasts, or other listing platforms.

The long answer: It’s complicated. Improving your podcast’s SEO, including having a website, is always a good idea, since it means more chances for people to find your podcast outside of just searching on their podcatcher of choice. Over time, having better SEO likely will mean more listeners, and more subscribers, which will then improve your listings on Apple Podcasts and other listing platforms.

A good way to think about it is like this: If you owned a restaurant and improved your restaurant’s website SEO, you would probably see more people eating at your restaurant. The SEO improvement didn’t directly mean more hungry people ordering food, but it had an indirect effect of more people finding and coming to your restaurant.

How do I embed an episode of my show on a webpage?

Shortwave provides two different styles of embeddable podcast player in order to include episodes of your show on a webpage. Both of our players show your podcast’s basic information, play audio, and tie to your podcast’s analytics. You can learn about Shortwave’s embeddable podcast players here: Embedding Your Podcast on a Website.

There are also some third-party embeddable podcast players like Powerpress that are popular Wordpress plugins. Though your show will work with these plugins, we do not maintain their code, and cannot make changes to them if something does not work as expected. We always recommend using Shortwave’s embed players when you can.

Can I host my podcast’s website on Shortwave?

Yes, you can! Every show on Shortwave automatically has a podcast player website. This website is hosted on Shortwave and includes your show information, episodes, share links, and subscribe information.
